Monday – August 28th – Revelation 10:9 -----
10:9) So I went to the angel and said to him, "Give me the little book." And he said to me, "Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth."
10) Then I took the little book out of the angel's hand and ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, my stomach became bitter.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
A WELL-WORN PATH IS NOT NECESSARILY THE RIGHT ONE.*
Good Monday to you!! Today we kick-off the last week of August 2023. Our inspirational thought for today is spot on in helping me work on charting my week of service and witness for the Kingdom of Heaven. I chuckled as I read today’s thought, and not in a way that was humorous but more in a way that was ouch. The above-mentioned well-worn path contains many of my own footsteps beating it down. I tend to think that most of us can easily, no matter how well intended, fall into the trap of repeating some of our same silly mistakes. Knowing and acting on what is the right action for any situation is the goal of all fully committed followers of Jesus. Most often that will lead us down paths that are less familiar but always are protected by the power and presence of God.
In our pick verses today, John, in receiving the scroll, is instructed by the angel to eat it. The angel states that it will taste sweet like honey in his mouth yet become bitter when it reaches his stomach. John is reminded that God’s word is a joy to receive but can be very painful to deliver. This is a unpopular message of judgement on unbelievers and therefore a message that may bring persecution to the prophet himself. Many Old Testament prophets carried out symbolic tasks to affirm their words of prophecy. Ezekiel was similarly instructed to eat a scroll that God had made available to him. By accepting and eat the scroll, John’s prophetic call to proclaim God’s coming judgment is symbolically renewed. Anyone who shares the gospel of Jesus will experience those who will joyfully accept God’s word, as well as, those who angerly reject God’s word and the people who deliver God’s message.
Blessings
