Is life more than you can handle alone right now?
Are your health, your attitude, or your relationships suffering?
Are you adjusting to a new job, change in marital status, a serious illness,
the death of a loved one, or a recent move?
Would you like to have someone in your life who really cares?
Consider getting a Stephen Minister!!
What is Stephen Ministry?
Stephen Ministry is grounded in Jesus’ command to love one another.
Through one-to-one caring relationships, those who are hurting receive
the love and care they need to support them.
What are Stephen Ministers?
Stephen Ministers:
- Are lay Christians selected, trained and supervised by Stephen Leaders
to provide effective Christian care.
- Make a commitment which includes 50 hours of training, ongoing supervisory
meetings, and an average of one 1-hour visit per week with the person receiving their care.
- Recognize this as a confidential ministry in which continuous effort is
expended to maintain the body of trust between the person receiving care and the caregiver.
Stephen Ministers are NOT. . .
- Counselors or therapists
- Problem-solvers
- Casual visitors
What are the needs with which Stephen Ministry can help?
Stephen Ministers can help those who are:
- Hospitalized
- Terminally ill
- Bereaved
- In a job crisis
- Disabled
- Grieving the loss of a loved one
- Unemployed
- Experiencing separation or divorce
- In need of care for many additional concerns
How does one get a Stephen Minister?
It’s as simple as a phone call to the pastor or church office.
The referrals process works as follows:
- A person – either you, a relative, or a friend – is hurting and in
need of Christian care.
- The Stephen Ministry Referrals Coordinator learns about this need for
care from a pastor, a friend, or from the person in need of care (only
after the person in need has granted permission.)
- The Referrals Coordinator meets with the person to talk about
Stephen Ministry.
- With the person’s permission, the Referrals Coordinator
assigns a Stephen Minister to meet on a weekly basis with that person.
- The Stephen Minister provides distinctively Christian and strictly confidential care.
Stephen Ministers are called to be Caregivers
“Bear one another’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of
Christ.” Galatians 6:2
God is the Curegiver
“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and
I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
